Canon Eos 7 D Mark II – with Impetuous Speed

TEST: Sought-after, long-awaited and widely discussed on the Internet. The successor of the Canon EOS 7 d has for five years had a follower – Mark II – that is a hefty update to today’s latest camera technology. And it’s hard not to be impressed.

Much has happened in the cameras of the past five years. The sensors have become better, the picture quality of high sensitivity as well. When the Canon EOS 7 d came, there were many who had found the right – a camera for the photographer who wanted to have many features but still does not step up to the more expensive full-frame cameras.

And maybe that’s why these owners have long been waiting for a successor. It is here – and is crammed with updated new technology to take the performance a step forward. Canon 7 d Mark II has inherited many features from the flagship 1 d X, such as the auto focus.

Speed is one of the strengths of the 7 d Mark II. The camera has many elements that allow the flow of the workflow. And of course it’s extra fun with a camera that can deliver.

Design and emotion

The classic 7 d user will instantly recognize the successor. The design is a copy with a few adjustments, including the control location in a slightly souped-up version, with an additional rotary knob for the thumb as well as a Q-menu button. Nothing to fall off the Chair, yet a few improvements.

To keep the camera feels really good. Right thumb, get an extra good support by the outstanding rubber edge and does everything for ergonomics. And when the camera lies in your hand is the fine for all the buttons and controls.

Control location is under the classical Canon design and works well. However, what is best is the slider you can quickly turn your thumb to reach extra functions, something that I will return to. Button on the camera’s bottom front page that can be reached with the left hand ring finger is also smart, and it can be programmed with a selectable function by pressing.

Response time of the camera is something that largely affects how one experiences the camera. Is this fast (i.e. how the camera processes the instructions, focus, keypresses and images), so this gives a pretty good picture of how the camera’s liquid is.

It is common that this is one of the differences that might first experienced when comparing professional models to other models in the hierarchy. This Canon has succeeded in really well with the new 7 d Mark II. The camera makes you tell it and do it right. In addition to the circuitry in the camera is awesome fast so is one of the 7 d Mark II’s strongest sides that it also has the ability to shoot at 10 frames per second, which is 2 FPS faster than its predecessor. For many shooting r the number of pictures per second an important aspect – they want to capture the exact moment when the light is right, the objects are located right in the photo, and the event takes place. And 10 frames per second will be really long.

Screen and viewfinder

Screen of 3 inches has 1.04 million pixels. Actually, there is not much to say about this except that it is of good quality and has a sharp and contrasty image. But there was no pressure-sensitive one, for those who liked to have this.

The viewfinder is the more interesting. Sökartäckningen is 100% of the image, which is great, but even better is the ability to configure some of the information that is displayed in the. This is also the first time we can take advantage of an adjustable viewfinder that is analog, which otherwise only been possible in the digital viewfinder. The Canon 7 d Mark II I can set so that I get the icons at the bottom that shows the image quality I have chosen, which focus program used, burst shooting and light metering options. This is very, very good, and a really big plus for those who want to have all the information at your fingertips-without having to remove your eye from the camera’s viewfinder. This also means that you can change the settings (if you memorized the keys and how settings are adjusted) without dropping the sieve on the shooting. Useful? Absolute. This, we also want to see more of.

In the same way, I like the setting that allows the entire image flashing in red when the focus is sitting, as well as the ability to move the icon of the autofocus (with its in-focus-dot) inside the image area or during it.

This is the settings options at its best – for the love of doing the camera to your own.

Fast autofocus

Canon has really done well with full autofocus-mindset when it comes to 7 d Mark II. With the various» case «found in the camera, it is quite easy to quick adjust the focus of various situations, and in fact, they work pretty good.

But if you want to dig even deeper, there are more settings to understand, more options to fine-tune, to get all that you want it, which is really good-and fun, if one is inserted.

Focusing of Floorball players moving decently fast with fast turnarounds work really well, and the focus is hanging with no problems which means that the 7 d is also ideal for sports photography along with his 10 pictures per second — and the quick response time which the camera has to hard use.

My focus point of camera is f/2.8 double cross type, where is it different to, for example, the flagship Canon 1 d X which has four. It is worth noting also that the central focus point to focus with f/8 lens, which means you get autofocus with an extender for so Dim as to aperture 8.

Also video functions have been updated. Of the 7 d, we have the ability to output the video via HDMI in 8-bit 4:2: 2, and at the same time record in 4:2: 0 in the memory card. When you do both of these at the same time you can not see the video image on the camera’s screen, but, on the other hand, can plug in an external monitor or hard disk recorder with HDMI out.I also like that the sliders are enhanced with touch function, to avoid having to click and press the camera’s buttons to make adjustments during the recording, something that can be really annoying. More great things in 7 d Mark II is that you can change the settings while recording, for example, the shutter speed or aperture.

You drive with auto-ISO, you can adjust the exposure compensation, and together with STM technology for adjusting the soft focus when shooting video as the camera is actually really good for filming. Here we find now also extended and well-functioning controls to adjust how quickly the focus to be adjusted at the filming to get those soft transitions.

After a bit of testing we find what is suitable for the feeling you want to have in the movie. However, it had been a great advantage to be able to touch the screen to adjust the focal point instead of having to use buttons to move this, if one wants to focus in a different point on the object that moves.

But in General, I must say that it is both fun and easy to shoot with the 7 d Mark II. And to follow the object with focus tracking also works really well.

Worth mentioning is also that Canon seen problem with HDMI and USB cables that fall away from the camera’s contacts and damaging this – in the box for the camera is a screwon extra contact holder for stabilizing cables from these two contacts. Smart, really smart, but the camera is bulkier for it – and worth a lot if you’re doing any kind of production.

Features

Canon 7 d Mark II is full of exciting features. An example is the camera’s ability to sync their exposure to light, for example, a basketball hall. By turning on the feature of the» flicker «can therefore eliminate felexponerade images when the frequency of the light touch switches – something that may cause problems at certain exposures.

In the menus of the camera also has an attitude regarding changing the focusing screen to see depth of field with a lens with a large aperture. Unfortunately, we have not been able to test this, but to change the focusing screen is a funny thing, something that we, as photographed by analogy is used to get more opportunities to see where the focus is, for instance in the case of manual focusing.

A really good thing, however, is the new slider thumb as you can keep the key down while you can adjust ISO settings, for example (also in manual mode) with your index finger. But a bit of a shame it is that you can not change between Auto-ISO and other ISO values – you can only adjust ISO values, but never return to auto mode. Maybe this will fix in a firmware update – this feature is really, really good.

Now Canon has also introduced time lapse Photography – now there is the feature and it was not a camera model of late. In this way, go to photograph images for, say, a time-lapse – any built-in functionality that is not in the camera.

However, the camera GPS and compass for those who are extra picky over where the picture is taken. However, Canon has decided to skip the wifi, according to what they say to the speed would suffer when the House is made of metal – and not wanted to mediate with the choice of materials to get the function to work well.

Personally, I do not think that this plays a major role, you don’t buy a camera of this type for the features that wifi has to offer.

Pictures in the JPG has been refined considerably from its predecessor, especially at high ISO values. Color noise is also minimal, and we see many similarities with the images that we see in Canon EOS.

Video quality is also good, entirely in class with other cameras in its class, even if it also does not stand out in any direction.

Conclusion

In the box with the plus and minus of the camera in this article are a resounding plus: Speed. The camera can rejoice over how the camera is fast jobbad, which is a big plus. One big minus is not really, but the camera would serve to have a printable screen to become even better at adjusting focus during filming.

WiFi nor feels like someone super-important thing, but on the other hand, had such a function had several good things to offer, in the form of remote release and remote settings.

Functioning to adjust ISO values with the rule of thumb can also improve so that it feels full, with the ability to quickly switch between auto mode or default ISO value.

With the 7 d Mark II, Canon has shown that APS-C lives on – and make it strong. Especially when the chosen pressing as good technology they actually made in this camera. Best of all, the camera fits so much – it’s fast, has many features, advanced – and even has an auto mode.
