The state borders the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Manitoba to the north, Wisconsin and Lake Superior to the east, Iowa to the south, and North and South Dakota to the west. With an area of 225,365 km² it occupies about 2.25% of the area of the USA. Almost 5 million people live in this predominantly rural state. There should be almost 15,000 lakes (more or less depending on the source). Some nature parks are home to sources of rivers, in the most famous, the “Itasca State Park”, the source of the Mississippi is.

HISTORY
On the Mississippi are also the famous “Twin Cities” (twin cities) Minneapolis and Saint Paul which are surrounded by around 938 lakes. The former is the larger city and the latter is the capital of the state. Several large, internationally active companies are based in the “Twins”. These include 3M (Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing), Northwest Airlines, and Cray Computers. The largest mall in the United States, the Mall of America, is located in Bloomington, a suburb of the Twin Cities.

Located in the heart of Minnesota, Agram (Morrison County) takes its name from the Croatian capital Zagreb (named after the old German name).
