According to citypopulationreview, Colorado is a state located in the Rocky Mountain region of the United States. It is bordered by Wyoming to the north, Nebraska to the northeast, Kansas to the east, Oklahoma to the southeast, New Mexico to the south, Utah to the southwest and Arizona to the west. The state encompasses an area of 104,093 square miles and is home to over 5 million people. Colorado is divided into two distinct regions: Western Colorado and Eastern Colorado. Western Colorado includes major cities such as Denver, Boulder and Grand Junction; while Eastern Colorado includes cities like Pueblo, Fort Collins and Greeley. Along with its cities and towns comes a variety of landscapes that make up The Centennial State – from high mountain peaks in Rocky Mountain National Park in Western Colorado to grasslands in Eastern Colorado. The state also boasts some of America’s most iconic landmarks including Garden of The Gods Park, Mesa Verde National Park and Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve. With its diverse geography comes bountiful natural resources that have made it one of America’s top tourist destinations – from skiing in Aspen or Vail to hot springs near Glenwood Springs or Ouray. Its climate ranges from alpine along its mountain regions to semi-arid on its eastern plains; with temperatures ranging from cool summers throughout much of the state except for southwestern parts which are warmer. This range of climates makes it an ideal destination for outdoor activities such as camping or hiking depending on which region you visit within this great state. According to allcitycodes, Colorado has nine area codes that cover the entire state. The three original area codes, 303, 719, and 970 were established in 1988. In 1995, the 720 area code was added to cover the Denver metropolitan area. In 1998, the 970 area code was split to form the 970 and 970 areas. The two new areas are located in western Colorado encompassing most of the mountain towns and resort areas. In 1999, the 303 area code was split to form both the 303 and 720 areas. The two new areas covered most of Denver and its suburbs. In 2008, a new 814 area code was introduced to serve northwest Colorado including Grand Junction and Steamboat Springs. The latest addition is the 541 area code added in 2014 which serves all of eastern Colorado including Colorado Springs and Pueblo. Each of these nine area codes are used for different purposes in Colorado depending on where you are located within the state’s boundaries. For example, people living in Denver will use either 303 or 720 when making local calls while those living in Grand Junction will use 814 when dialing locally within their city limits. Similarly people living in Durango will use 970 for local calling while those living in Colorado Springs will use 541 for local calls within their city limits. It is important to note that all nine of these area codes are also used for long distance calling throughout Colorado as well as throughout other parts of North America depending on your carrier service provider.
