It is bordered by New York to the north and northeast, Pennsylvania to the west, and Delaware to the south and southeast. The Atlantic Ocean is east of New Jersey, providing 130 miles of coastline. The state has three major geographic regions: the Coastal Plain, Piedmont Plateau, and Highlands. The Coastal Plain begins at sea level along the Atlantic Ocean and extends northwestward to Pennsylvania. This region contains many steep valleys with rocky outcroppings as well as numerous rivers including Passaic River which flows through Paterson – a city that was once known for its industrial past but now enjoys a booming arts scene. This area code also includes the cities of Trenton and Princeton. The 732 area code is located throughout central New Jersey and covers Monmouth County along with parts of Middlesex County that are not included in any other area codes. This area code also includes the cities of Freehold Township and Old Bridge Township. The 848 area code is located throughout central New Jersey and covers parts of Somerset County that are not included in any other areas codes. This area code also includes the city of New Brunswick. The 856 area is located throughout southern New Jersey and covers Camden County along with parts of Gloucester County that are not included in any other areas codes. This areas also includes the cities of Cherry Hill and Voorhees Township.
