New Mexico’s diverse terrain also provides plenty of outdoor activities for visitors such as hiking, camping, fishing, rock climbing, skiing and more. Its culture is also unique with strong Spanish influences present throughout much of its history that can be seen in its cuisine, architecture and art scene today. These area codes cover the entire state and allow individuals to make local calls. Area code 505 is the largest area code in New Mexico. It covers most of the western half of the state including Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Farmington. It also includes part of Socorro County and Cibola County. Area code 575 covers the eastern half of New Mexico including Clovis, Roswell and Hobbs. It also includes part of Chaves County and Eddy County. Area code 806 covers a small portion of northeastern New Mexico including Tucumcari and Clayton as well as parts of Quay County and Union County. Area code 915 covers a small portion of southwestern New Mexico including Las Cruces, Deming and Silver City as well as parts of Dona Ana County and Grant County. Area code 928 covers a small portion of northwestern New Mexico including Gallup and Aztec as well as parts of McKinley County and San Juan County. Area code 970 covers a small portion of southeastern New Mexico including Carlsbad, Hobbs and Artesia as well as parts of Lea County and Chaves County. Finally, area code 505 is an overlay for all seven existing area codes in New Mexico that was put into service in 2020 to provide additional telephone numbers for customers who need them in this growing state. This means that all existing telephone numbers will remain active while new numbers that are assigned will be assigned one from this new overlayed area code instead. This ensures that everyone can continue to use their current telephone number with no interruption or changes necessary while still having access to new numbers when needed for personal or business use in this growing state.
